This will include basic training in all phases of this field, both written and practical. Secondly, MarJon prepares you for a future in cosmetology. Hair stylist, salon owner/manager, stage artist, school instructor (after 2-5 years of experience), product demonstrator, and retail specialist are just a few of the careers you can choose from as a licensed cosmetologist. Other Student Information
:

Placement Services: MarJon doesn't guarantee employment or salary to our students, but our placement office will do it's best to help find employment opportunities for students and graduates. We will advise students on how to complete job applications, create resumes and handle interviews. An active list of prospective jobs is kept by the Administrator, and any student requesting this information will receive it along with any new leads that become available.

Student Counseling Services:
All faculty and staff at MarJon have an open door policy and are available to assist students with academic, career, individual and personal issues as needed. Each counseling session will be held in private, and should further assistance be needed, a referral to an appropriate professional or agency will be made.

Attendance Policy:
Tardiness and/or early departure will be considered absent time. All time required for the make-up of absences must be scheduled with the approval of the Administrator. Absent time that is made up before the students scheduled graduation date is not chargeable. All absent time made up after a students graduation date must be paid for at a rate of $6.00 per hour. Any absence in excess of 20% of the total number of instructional hours offered in the first half of the course, excluding any approved leave of absence, shall be cause for probation or dismissal.

Leaves of Absences (LOA):
If a student finds him/herself in a situation where he/she must take a leave of absence, permission will be granted at the Director's discretion. Students must request a leave of absence in writing and written permission must be granted by the Director. No credit will be given for classes given during the time in which a student is on a LOA. If LOA is granted, the student need not apply for re-admission. Only one leave of absence will be granted per calendar year, after that the student must apply for re-admission. A leave of absence will not exceed 30 calendar days for personal reasons and 60 calendar days for medical reasons, but must be at least 5 consecutive days.

Grading and Satisfactory Progress:
A student's progress is checked by both practical and written exams at the completion of each unit of subject matter. All grades are cumulative, and these grades are recorded on progress achievement records which are computed monthly. Exams are given monthly and are graded as follows:
A     90% - 100%
B     80% - 89%
C     70% - 79%
D     65% - 69%
F     0% - 64%

Students receiving less than a C will be evaluated and given remedial instructions on that area of theory or practical work. A passing grade/satisfactory progress is considered to be a grade of at least 70% or a C. Written and practical work, to include clinical work, is all graded in the same manner. We base these marks on the passing grades of New York State Board examinations. A Student who falls short of these standards will be placed on probation for a 30 day period and given remedial assistance. The student will be considered to be making satisfactory progress, if at the end of this 30 days, their grade average is at least a 70% or a C. If their grade average has not increased to 70% or C, the student will be dismissed. Satisfactory progress is also necessary to maintain financial aid eligibility.

Dress Standard:
Each student will be dressed in proper uniform because a neatly dressed and well groomed appearance is essential for career success. All students are required to wear black pants or skirts, plain colored tops and a black lab coat. Socks or stockings must be worn at all times under black or white footwear. No jeans, sweats, open toe or heel shoes or high topped sneakers are permitted. Scarves, hats and headgear are also not allowed.

Student File Access:
In accordance with the Federal Educational Rights & Privacy Act of 1974, a student of a dependent student's parent or guardian may inspect their records upon request to the Academic Office. MarJon will not release any information pertaining to its students to the public.
